Avoid Heating and Plumbing Repairs After Vacation

Going on Vacation can be a very exciting and joyful process. It could also be very stressful with the amount of planning and forethought required before you leave. One thing that often gets left behind is the status of your plumbing and heating system. Unfortunately, if you are not around and their is a plumbing issue, it can be extremely costly and destructive. And who wants to come home to plumbing and heating repairs?

Here are few things that could help you have peace of mind on your vacation. Here is a list of steps you should consider when leaving your home for an extended period of time:
  • Turn off Your Water System - When you are on vacation, you are not around to see if there are any leaks or issues that need to be repaired in your plumbing. We recommend that you shut down your water system before you leave for vacation in order to prevent costly damage to your home.
  • Turn off Your Water Heater - After turning off your water system, it's important to turn off your water heater. If you turn off you water heater, make sure you know the correct way to do it. If you have a natural gas or propane water heater, it might have a “vacation” setting to save on gas and to avoid having to relight the pilot light when you return. If you have an instant hot water machine, unplug the unit from the power outlet. Check your manual or with a professional, like us, if you aren't sure.
  • Check for Drips and Leaks - If you check your facets and pipes before you leave, you can find small issues that could, potentially, become large issues while you are away. If you find an issue, call Harry Clark and we'll fix it as soon as we can so that your vacation can be as relaxed as possible.
  • Neightbor's Help - When away, it is good to ask a neighbor or friend to watch over your home. They can watch out for any changes and let you know about the status of your home.
  • Emergency Repairs - Something could happen while you are away. If you have someone watching over your home, leave them information of what to do in case of emergency. In case of an plumbing or heating issues, leave our contact information (Harry Clark Plumbing and Heating @ (510) 444-1776 or (925) 444-1776) in a prominent place. This way, your friend knows who to call for the service you'll trust.
